Over the weekend, I posted a new poem – or you might consider them song lyrics. I’ve used a song form and there is some rhyming, although not with a strict meter.
I’ve been thinking about it for a long time, so I thought I would explain. A year or two ago, I had a dream of Ella Fitzgerald singing a song with the lines “… chasing moonbeams, and all the little things you are. Farewell to a thousand things.” First, I Googled the line just to see if I remembered it from something. No hits. Then I tried to remember more of the words, but those were all I could come up with. I thought of asking a friend who is a composer to write a song, but I couldn’t recall enough of the tune for him.
Finally, I was cleaning my office, and decided it was time to throw out that piece of paper. To do that, I had to use the lines in a poem. Hence, Farewell to a thousand things was born.
