POLITICS ALERT

A long term anger is seething within me. My adopted country is committing collective suicide. The ruling party is telling us lies upon lies, including (as was repeated in the debate last night) that we voted overwhelmingly in favor of this travesty. (There were only a few percentage points difference.) Now they are trying to bribe their constituents with tax cuts, and enormous spending commitments. They say they will be able to pay for it through increased revenue because of the tax cuts creating economic growth. Regardless of how we leave the EU, we will have a recession. A no-deal separation will be worse. They won’t be able to pay for any of their promises. In fact, they will have to raise taxes and cut spending, just opposite of what they are promising. How can people NOT see this? And the opposition is sitting on the fence. It’s time to get off that fence.

Sorry. I just needed to vent.

Today’s Haiku: Bribery

Today’s card:

XVII. The Star

Hope, clarity of vision, unexpected help, spiritual vision, realization of vision. On the flip side, it can also mean error of judgement, dreaminess, disappointment.

I can’t handle this card today. Is it for me? For the country? Is it my mistake to even bring this up?

AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

      • I don’t mind. I’ve been floating in my own brain, suspended in saline tears. I’m not very political.

      • Yeah, politics is a drag. I don’t know why I bother. What’s happening in your brain? We need to change those salty tears into something fun. Do you surf? Or maybe a virtual or fantasy surf. There’s a big one coming in. Let’s go get it! Oompf.

      • Silver surfer of mercurian meridians, balance board of wobbly wibbles. I only surf the web. As much as I weave words anyway. My brain is doing what it normally does – overthinking everything. But my heart is just heavy, it doesn’t have the buoyancy it once did. Violence to the sound of trumpets is needed. Toot toot!

  1. I don’t know if you listened to The Rite of Spring when I mentioned my poem about it the other day, but Stravinsky’s piece is perhaps the most beautiful and the most violent piece I know. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkwqPJZe8ms

You get the trumpets. I listen to it whenever I need release. In the ballet, the chosen one basically dances herself to death. Some of us in the business think this is the greatest piece ever written. It has certainly influenced every western art music composer since then (1913).

It certainly blows out the cobwebs for me. Listen to it LOUD.
